AEW’s annual All Out pay-per view is fast approaching with the marquee event set to take place in Now Arena in Chicago on September 4. It was, of course, this event last year which saw the in-ring debut of CM Punk in an AEW ring as well as the surprise entrances of Bryan Danielson and Adam Cole. In this article, we predict possible exciting matchups that could be seen this time round.
CM Punk vs. Jon Moxley- Unification match for the AEW World Championship.
Back at Double or Nothing in May, CM Punk won the AEW World Championship belt in the main event against then champion, Adam Page. It was a moment many anticipated since Punks arrival in AEW and many foreseen a forthcoming ‘Summer of Punk.’ These best laid plans would be unable to materialise with Punk sustaining a broken foot in a trios match in the following weeks Dynamite. The decision was taken to crown an interim champion with No1 contender, Jon Moxley winning this honour in a main event match against Kyle O’Reilly, who had in the same episode won a battle royal to face of against the Blackpool Combat member. We always knew we would reach the stage where a title unification match would be needed and Punk’s surprise return in the aftermath of the interim world title match between Moxley and Chris Jericho set the scene beautifully with Punk and Moxley in the ring face-to-face together. All signs point to what many would see as a ‘Dream Match’ in September.
Young Bucks & Kenny Omega vs. Dark Order for AEW Trios Tag Team Championship
The long awaited confirmation that AEW was launching a trios tag team championship came recently and the excitement came upon the revealing of the tournament bracket when it was revealed that the Young Bucks would have a ‘mystery partner.’ In a tantalising sequence of events, Adam Cole and re-DRAGON turned and beat down the Young Bucks only for Adam Page to come to a surprise rescue setting-up a reconciliation between the former Elite teammates. However, Page later rejected the Bucks request for him to be their partner, stating instead he would be in the Dark Orders corner and advising they go with someone who never turned their back on them. All points to a sensational return for Kenny Omega who has been out of action since losing the World Championship to Page back at Full Gear in November 2021. With the Dark Order in the opposite end of the tournament bracket, it could set-up a fascinating conclusion to the tournament to crown the first ever trios tag team champions.
Thunder Rosa vs. Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship.
This seems on the cards for sure after a recent backstage segment in which Tony Schiavone in which he confirmed to both women that Toni Storm was now the number one contender for the women’s world championship following an injury to Kris Statlander. Rosa and Storm had recently been teaming together in a feud against Dr Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa and have established a rapport but Storm made clear her desire to be world champion. The pair have faced off once before back at the AEW-NJPW ‘Forbidden Door’ show but the match did appear to get slightly lost amidst the various cross promotional matches. This could be a chance for both women to shine most prominently.
Jade Cargill vs. Athena for the TBS Championship
Another match that has been brewing for some time since the surprise debut of the fallen goddess back at Double or Nothing, tensions have risen between her and the TBS Champion. This could be Jade’s biggest test to date!
Swerve in Our Glory vs. La Facion Ingobernables for the AEW World Tag Team Championships
Andrade El Idlo and Rush have been impressing in their new faction in recent weeks in a feud against the Lucha Bros but Andrade has recently tasked Private Party with winning the Tag Team Championships for his faction in what seemed a less than amicable team discussion. If that bid, along with Andrade, Rush and Dragon Lee’s quest for trios gold fails, Andrade and Rush could decide to go for the tag team belts themselves, setting up an encounter between them and current champions Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee.
Pac vs. Kip Sabian for the AEW All Atlantic Championship
Kip Sabian has not been seen in AEW for some time due to injury and has been seen in recent months in the crowd at shows, with a new gimmick in which he wears a box on his head. Kip returned to wrestling in July at a independent show in England and then was seen in the crowd at Pac’s All Atlantic Championship defence at Rev Pro Wrestling with several references made to Sabian courting the belt in AEW programming. This could set up a fascinating all-English encounter between the pair at All Out.
Jungle Boy vs. Christian Cage
There has been a gradual build-up to an inevitable showdown between the Jurassic Express star and his former mentor since Cage turned on JungleBoy after he and Luchasaurus lost the AEW Tag Team belts to the Young Bucks on Dynamite. Cage attacked JungleBoy with the con-chair-to which saw the latter out of the picture for several weeks, in which time Cage appeared to convince Luchasaurus to side with him and launched a series of personal attacks on JungleBoy and his family. However, JungleBoy soon returned and Luchasaurus sided with him and the build up to what surely would be a amazing encounter at All Out has well and truly begun.
House of Black vs. Darby Allin, Sting and Miro
Darby has been feuding with Brody King and House of Black for some time now with interventions from Sting, such as in last weeks Coffin Match. Meanwhile, ever since receiving Malaki Black’s mist back at Forbidden Door, Miro has been dropping intriguing and ambiguous vignettes in which it is unclear whether he will seek to join or conquer the House of the Black. Miro teaming with Darby and Sting against House of Black could make a thrilling match with six men who have been part of incredible PPV matches for AEW in the past.
FTR vs. Lucha Bros for the AAA Tag Team Championships
It was FTR who took for AAA belts away from the Lucha Bros when disguised as luchadors called Las Super Ranas. FTR have turned face since then and been on a epic won, capturing tag team belts in NJPW and Tony Khan’s new acquisition Ring of Honor. A rematch between two of the hottest teams in AEW could be epic.
Sammy Guevara vs. Eddie Kingston
Eddie previously challenged Sammy to a match at All Out during a promo on AEW Dynamite. After Eddie sent Sammy from the roof of the cage back at Blood and Guts, there is more than a score to settle between the pair.
Jericho Appreciation vs. Blackpool Combat Club- Chicago Street Fight
This feud has been ongoing for quite a while and while they have previously had Anarchy in the Arena and Blood and Guts, there is still plenty of heat between the two sides with Chris Jericho and Wheeler Yuta and Daniel Garcia and Bryan Danielson amongst the combinations facing off in recent weeks. A singles encounter is possible between either of these parings, as is a tag team match or indeed a 3 v 3 with Claudio Castignoli and a third member of the JAS involved. Alternatively, Chris Jericho vs. Bryan Danielson would be a singles dream match.
Ruby Soho and Skye Blue vs. Tay Conti & Anna Jay
This is another one of those encounters which has been brewing for several weeks with both Ruby Soho and Skye Blue having run-ins against Tay and Anna who have turned heel since joining the JAS. Ruby has even warned Tay and Anna that they are coming for them. This could be in the style of street fight during the main show, like Tay and Anna previously had against Penelope Ford and the Bunny on Rampage, or alternatively as a match on the buy in show.
Wardlow & Orange Cassidy vs. Jay Lethal and Satnam Singh
Both Wardlow and Orange Cassidy have had feuds with the ex-Ring of Honor champion and former Basketball star in recent times. This could be a beloved face vs. heel tag-team match that gets over with the crowd.
Hook vs. Ariya Daivari for the FTW Championship
Hook continues to rise to new heights in AEW and is now the FTW Champion. If AEW want to give him a outing at All Out, Davari is someone who has been pushed considerably in recent times and could be a good opponent for him.
Danhausen & the Acclaimed vs. The Gunn Club
This could be a fun one for the buy-in show, leading into the main show. The Acclaimed and the Gunn Club have been feuding since the latter turned on Max Caster and Anthony Bowens. With Danhausen also coming up against the Gunn Club recently, he could combine with the Acclaimed for a comedic style match to warm up the crowd.
