Forecasting the Card for AEW Double or Nothing 2022- 10 predicted matches.

By Dan, Wrestling Spot Editor.

With Hangman Page vs. CM Punk for the AEW World Championship and Serena Deeb for the AEW World Women's Championship already confirmed, we predict ten other matches which could feature on the card at All Elite Wrestling's marquee pay-per-view event Double or Nothing later this month.

Young Bucks vs. The Hardys

An eventual encounter between the Young Bucks and the Hardys appeared to being teased at this week’s AEW Dynamite. Jeff Hardy beat Bobby Fish and the Young Bucks entered in the aftermath to ultimately check on the wellbeing of their defeat Elite Teammate but not before a interesting interaction in-ring between the two sets of brothers. It’s a dream match that AEW fans would want to see and with plenty of history between them, Double or Nothing may be the perfect setting for such a bout.

Dr Britt Baker D.M.D vs. Toni Storm (Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Final)

A feud is developing between the good doctor and former WWE NXT UK’s women champion, with the two recently in tag team action on opposite sides on this week’s AEW Rampage. There has also now been a number of backstage interview segments involving these two and as they are in opposite ends of the draw for the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, a match between the two of them could make for a special women’s final.

Adam Cole vs. Samoa Joe (Owen Hart Foundation Tournament)

Its hard not to see Adam Cole going far in the Owen Hart Foundation tournament, even though he would have to get past Jeff Hardy or Darby Allin to get to the final, with a definite win not necessarily a foregone conclusion in either match-up. Cole does seem the most likely however and attention then turns to who he would face. A match-up with fellow ex-WWE star Samoa Joe could be a 5* encounter and would seem a obvious good move. However, Samoa Joe would have to get past the mysterious, yet to be revealed, ‘joker’ entrant first in his side of the draw. Could they provide a even more epic final and get past the ROH World Champion? They would have to be very high profile to do so- anyone else brave enough to predict a shock early return for Kenny Omega as the joker?

Jurassic Express vs. Team Taz (Ricky Starks and Hobbs) vs. Swerve Strickland & Keith Lee

Jurassic Express are an enjoyable watch as AEW World Tag Team Champions and will inevitably need some form of Championship challenge for Double or Nothing. In their current angle, JungleBoy is feuding with Ricky Starks, with the former issuing a FTW Championship match a stipulation for any tag team challenge from Starks and Hobbs of Team Taz. Swerve Stirckland and the Keith Lee have made it clear they have unfinished business with Team Taz and a three way encounter between the two rivals and the world champions could be a good option for Double or Nothing and build on the similar match format used in the last PPV when JungleBoy and Luchasarus saw off the Young Bucks and reDragon. Another option would be for a match with FTR who appeared at the end of a recent Jurassic Express win.

MJF vs. Wardlow.

Wardlow has been wanting to get his hands on his former Pinnacle overlord for weeks now, though MJF has prevented him from doing so- binding the Powerbomb symphony star to his contract and requiring him to come to the ring handcuffed with a security detail to face the challenges he has set for that particular week. A match must be in the non-to distant future with MJF set to reveal his stipulations next week on AEW Dynamite, Double or Nothing seems the perfect location.

The House of Black vs. Death Triangle

Ray Fenix’s injury has potentially slowed down the angle between these two teams, though now he is back, this feud seems to be firmly back on the agenda with Death Triangle running out to intervene against House of Black’s recent attack on the Varsity Blondes. This match could work equally well on the pre-card or main show.

Chris Jericho vs. Eddie Kingston

This is the feud that keeps on giving and is without a doubt Jericho’s best work since his feud ended with MJF. The rivalry with Kingston saw the disbanding of the Inner Circle and a surprise loss at Revolution in the last PPV. Since, the Jericho Appreciation Society has been formed, there has been many memorable promos and backstage segments and various match-ups between Jericho and his new faction and Kingston, flanked by Santana or Ortiz. A match with some form of stipulation, be it a street fight or falls count anywhere match, would be a logical step. This could be a solo match, but would equally work well as a team encounter.

Jade Cargill vs. Mercedes Martinez

Jade is looking unbeatable, having passed the 30-0 stage and having defeated many of the current roster, attention turns to who could provide her with a credible challenge for the TBS Championship at AEW Double or Nothing. A Champion vs. Champion match with the new undisputed Ring of Honor women’s champion Mercedes Martinez could be a clash to provide plenty of intrigue and give Mark Sterling’s client her strongest title defence challenge yet.

Blackpool Combat Club vs. Andrade Family Office

William Regal’s faction the Blackpool Combat Club have quickly become one of the most popular stables AEW, bringing together two of the promotion’s very best Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley and hot young talent Wheeler Yuta. Every week they have been commanding and entertaining, reminding us why Danielson and Moxley are so highly rated and getting Yuta increasingly over by the week. They recently took on some members of the AFO on Dynamite and this could, if developed well, transition nicely into a Double or Nothing match with Andrade himself and two of his stable. The flair and audaciousness of Private Party would be a great contrast to the no-nonsense Blackpool Combat Club.

Darby Allin wins Casino Battle Royal for a future World Championship Match

A staple feature of Double or Nothing appears to have been a multi-competitor match for a future shot at the men’s AEW World Championship. Last year, it was a memorable night for Jungle Boy as he won a Casino Battle Royal in an encounter which seen him fight off competition from his future mentor Christian Cage. Adam Cage won a match of the same format in 2019, while Brian Cage won a Casino ladder match in 2020. Darby Allin has had a number of memorable pay-per-view moments, from his match with CM Punk to teaming with Sting in an encounter against Ethan Page & Scorpio Sky. One of the highest rising stars in the promotion, he would be a popular winner of such a match.
