With just over a week until Double or Nothing 2022, several more huge matches have been confirmed for the AEW Pay-Per View.
In what can only be described as a dream match, there has now been confirmation that Matt and Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy will take on the Young Buck’s AEW Double or Nothing. The two tag-teams have been clashing in recent weeks with the Bucks and wider Super Elite faction attacking Jeff and Matt with allies Darby Allin and Sting coming to the rescue, only to have be beaten down themselves.
Following the House of Black’s victory over Fuego Del Sol and Dark Order’s Evil Uno and Preston ‘10’ Vance on this week’s AEW Rampage, the Death Triangle appeared on the ramp way with Penta Oscuro revealing a headstone with the label ‘House of Black- Double or Nothing.’ This was ahead of the confirmation that House of Black (Malaki Black, Brody King and Buddy Matthews) will take on Death Triangle (Ray Fenix, Penta and Pac) at the marquee event.
During Friday’s Rampage, TBS Champion, Jade Cargill also laid down the gauntlet to the in-form Anna Jay for a championship match at the Pay-Per view event. Jade remains unbeaten and has previously successfully defended her belt against Anna early in her title reign.
Tension also continues to ramp-up between the Jericho Appreciation Society and the Blackpool Combat club ahead of the former’s match against the latter who are teaming up with Eddie Kingston, Santana and Ortiz at Double or Nothing. On Friday’s rampage, verbal exchanges continued on commentary between William Regal and Chris Jericho during the main event between the Blackpool Combat Club’s Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson and Dante Martin and Matt Sydal. This was followed by a further physical attack initiated by Jericho’s faction at the end of the match.
The event which takes place in the T-Mobile Arena, on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada on May 29 2022, will also see the inaugural winner’s crowned in both the men’s and women’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament. In the men’s tournament Adam Cole will take on either Samoa Joe or his teammate Kyle O’Reilly. Meanwhile, in the women’s tournament, the winner of Dr Britt Baker D.M.D vs. Toni Storm will take on the victor of the other semi-final between Kris Statlander and Ruby Soho.
This year’s AEW Double or Nothing will see Adam Page defend his AEW World Championship Match in the main event. Elsewhere in the title picture, Thunder Rosa defends the AEW Women’s World Championship against Serena Deeb. Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus will also defend their AEW World Tag-Team Championship belts in a three-way encounter with Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland and Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Will Hobbs.
The other match confirmed so far will see fan-favourites Hook and Danhausen take on Tony Nese and ‘Smart Mark Sterling.’
It remains to be seen what other matches may be added to the card- Wardlow will secure a match with MJF should he beat Shawn Spears in a steal-cage match this week. A ongoing storyline has also pitted TNT Champion Scorpio Sky and the American Top-Team against both Frankie Kazazian and Sammy Guevara & Tay Conti. Could some form of match involving these stars be on the cards at Double or Nothing? At the time of writing, several other stars such as Darby Allin, Sting and Andrade El Idlo have yet to be confirmed for matches so it will be interesting to see who else, if anyone, is announced in the coming days.
